Enrollment declines at South Texas Universities a worrying trend

Thank you for your timely article on student enrollment numbers at Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (“Enrollment continues to fall at Texas A&M University-Kingsville,” Oct. 19).

As the article suggests, the Coastal Bend community’s two renowned institutions of higher learnings – Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, both universities of national and international reputation, are facing challenges. While it is easy to attribute the decrease in enrollment to COVID-19, there is no clear evidence to support this. Importantly, it also does not explain how other institutions have managed a net growth in student population during this time. read more
